Recently I’ve been making a lot of music and was working from home. I’m living in a shared flat and was stuck in my bedroom a lot last year, which definitely was a bit frustrating.
This February I pulled the trigger and I’m now renting a small office to separate living and working.
Now I’ll write a short series on everything related to moving into this office since it’s been quite a bit of work, but I’m also quite proud of the result. I absolutely love walking to my office every morning and I can already tell that it has improved my quality of life signaficantly.
The basic idea
There were already a few criteria to make it a nice office.
-
Quiet during the day.
-
Basic infrastructure like power, internet, lighting and heating.
-
A restroom.
-
A small kitchen. (optional)
But I also want to record and write music there!
-
No noise complaints from sensitive neighbours.
-
No EMI (would lead to buzzing guitars and audio gear).
-
Acoustically viable room and the ability to add acoustic treatment.
It took some time, but luckily I found a place that’s literally just 5 minutes walking distance from my home and surprisingly it checks most of the boxes.
What to look forward to
I’m planning to write some articles on a few topics.
-
Planning acoustic treatment, measuring the results and improving it.
-
Building acoustic panels.
-
Car-Sharing is awesome.
-
Cable management (currently still a mess).
-
Some (audio) gear reviews.
