Recently I’ve been making a lot of music and was working from home. I’m living in a shared flat and was stuck in my bedroom a lot last year, which definitely was a bit frustrating.

This February I pulled the trigger and I’m now renting a small office to separate living and working.

What the room looks like now

Now I’ll write a short series on everything related to moving into this office since it’s been quite a bit of work, but I’m also quite proud of the result. I absolutely love walking to my office every morning and I can already tell that it has improved my quality of life signaficantly.

The basic idea

There were already a few criteria to make it a nice office.

  • Quiet during the day.

  • Basic infrastructure like power, internet, lighting and heating.

  • A restroom.

  • A small kitchen. (optional)

But I also want to record and write music there!

  • No noise complaints from sensitive neighbours.

  • No EMI (would lead to buzzing guitars and audio gear).

  • Acoustically viable room and the ability to add acoustic treatment.

It took some time, but luckily I found a place that’s literally just 5 minutes walking distance from my home and surprisingly it checks most of the boxes.

What to look forward to

I’m planning to write some articles on a few topics.

  • Planning acoustic treatment, measuring the results and improving it.

  • Building acoustic panels.

  • Car-Sharing is awesome.

  • Cable management (currently still a mess).

  • Some (audio) gear reviews.
